
A | MEXICO CITY -- Tropical Storm Norma formed off Mexico’s western Pacific coast Tuesday and the U.S. National Hurricane Center said it is likely to become a hurricane, threatening the resort of Los Cabos, on the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula.Norma could reach Los Cabos, made up of the twin resorts of San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, by the weekend.On Tuesday, Norma had winds of 40 mph (65 kph), but could strengthen to as much as 105 mph (168 kph) mph by the weekend. The center of the storm was located about 690 miles (1,110 kilometers) south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, and was moving west-northwest at 10 mph (17 kph).However, the storm is expected to follow a more northward track later in the week.____Follow AP’s climate coverage at: https://apnews.com/hub/climate-and-environment。 Colombo, Oct 20 (UNI) The Supreme Court has re-issued notices to former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa regarding a petition filed over the disappearance of two human rights activists in Jaffna peninsula in December 2011.
The notice is returnable on December 15, The Island newspaper reported on Thursday.
The Court of Appeal earlier quashed summons issued on the former President to appear before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court, as a witness, in connection with this case. Both the missing activists are Tamil.
The Sri Lankan military is accused of killing thousands of innocent civilians during the end stages of its war against the Tamil Tiger separatists. Many were also picked up for questioning but were never seen again.
Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who fled Sri Lanka in July but has since returned to the country, presided over the war against the Tamil Tigers as the country's Defence Secretary.
